Stark DD’s School Age Services include Rebecca Stallman Southgate School, a separate public educational facility, and a satellite classroom at Avondale Elementary through Plain local schools.
These programs meet all standards as specified by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. All students receiving services will progress individually through Ohio’s Academic Content Standards – Extended.
Students must have evaluation data from the school district of residence, and be determined county board eligible through the COEDI (Children's Ohio Eligibility Determination Instrument) or OEDI (Ohio Eligibility Determination Instrument).
An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is the legal document that defines a child’s special education plan.
For children with IEPs, transition meetings will be scheduled in the spring of the year a child will be eligible for kindergarten. The meeting will include the parents, teacher(s), a Stark DD Administrator, and a District Representative, who is often the Director of Special Education.
Possible placement options will be discussed, along with the activities that will take place to make the transition to kindergarten as smooth as possible for your family and child.
An IEP includes:
- the disability under which the child qualifies for special education services
- the services the team has determined the school will provide
- the child’s yearly goals and objectives
- any accommodations that must be made to assist their learning
Southgate School
Rebecca Stallman Southgate School supports students with significant disabilities.
Individualized instruction focuses on functional academics, communication and socialization skills, behavior support, and practical tasks for living and working in the community.
Southgate is best suited to students with very significant support needs. All students must be referred by their local school district to be considered for enrollment.
Transportation
School transportation is available to students enrolled in Rebecca Stallman Southgate School, including the satellite classrooms located at Avondale.
